A HEREFORD teenager who has been helping sell poppies since she was aged just six has been rewarded for her efforts.

Brooke Keeble, a 13-year-old who goes to Kingstone High School, got involved after she stood in for long-term volunteer Joyce Nicholls at the Tesco supermarket in Belmont.

"I was going into Tesco one school night and Joyce was doing the poppies," said Jacqui Carwardine, Brooke's grandmother.

"Joyce asked me if I could look after it while she went to the toilet.

"I told her to go and also get a cup of coffee and we'd watch the table for you.

"In that 15 to 20 minutes, Brooke took more than Joyce had took in two hours.

"She enjoyed it so much and asked if she can do it again. Joyce fits her into a slot every year now."

Darren Maynard, poppy appeal manager for Herefordshire at the Royal British Appeal, said  "Brooke is quite a rarity but we're trying to move forward and get more young people volunteering and this is a great start.

Brooke will be at the Belmont Tesco supermarket from 11am to 1pm today (October 28) and midday to 2pm tomorrow (October 29).
