A DRUNK man who was shouting and swearing at police officers in a Hereford street has been fined by magistrates.

Simon Caban, of Marlbrook Road in Hereford, told magistrates his behaviour was down to him being in a bad mood after an argument with his friend.

The 21-year-old admitted an offence of being drunk and disorderly in Hereford's Union Street, during his appearance at Hereford Magistrates Court on October 25.

Mark Hambling, prosecuting, said police were alerted to Caban's behaviour on September 17, and arrested him after he refused to leave the street and became abusive.

The court heard Caban was drunk and that police became increasingly concerned and frustrated as he kept coming back to Union Street after being told to leave.

"He was shouting, swearing and being abusive to police officers," Mr Hambling said. "He would not listen, and he kept moving and coming back. He was asked to leave but he wouldn't leave."

Caban pleaded guilty to the drunk and disorderly charge and was ordered to pay an £80 fine, plus a £32 victim surcharge and £135 in costs.

Caban told the court: "I see it's not acceptable and just irresponsible really."

He added that he had been sacked from his previous job as a landscape gardener after his arrest.

Magistrates told him he was free to go, but warned him: "You have burdened yourself with a lot of debt and you're only 21."
