ONE of the best herds in the country will soon be going up for sale, say Hereford Market Auctioneers.
The auctioneers, based at Hereford's Roman Road livestock market, will be auctioning off the cattle herd from Upper Court Farms in Clifford at their December 21 sale.
A market spokesperson said the farm near Hay-on-Wye is selling its suckler herd, including breeding bulls, due to a change in its farming policy.
In their sale information, the Hereford Market Auctioneers said the herd is “arguably one of the best suckler herds in the country.”
The cattle will be sold as in-calvers (no calves at foot).

A spokesperson for Upper Court Farms said they had made the decision to sell the award-winning commercial herd as part of a wider restructuring plan in order to allow the business to focus more heavily on their other enterprises and expand ‘UC feeds’, the animal feeds side of the family-run business.
Cattle will still be kept on the farm, but they will no longer be calving their own, the spokesperson confirmed.
Since UC Feeds was established, the farm has been voted a Finalist in the National Farmers Weekly Awards 2020 for Mixed Farmer of the Year, and won the Three Counties Farming Awards Arable Farmer Award in 2019 and 2020.
