A MERCEDES driver caught out on the A49 in Herefordshire while almost three times the drink-driving limit has been banned from the roads for more than two years.

Duncan Pluck entered a guilty plea to one count of driving while over the alcohol limit when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford in November.

The court heard from prosecutor Mark Hambling that the 55-year-old had been caught out on the A49 at Dinmore in Herefordshire after getting behind the wheel of a blue Mercedes A Class while over the drink-driving limit on September 19.

An evidential breath test revealed that Pluck, who was represented at the hearing by defence solicitor Julie Gowland, had 100 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, almost three times the legal limit of 35 microgrammes.

Pluck, of Springhill Road, Saffron Waldren, was fined £3,846 and disqualified from driving for 25 months for the offence, with magistrates saying that they had taken his guilty plea into account when imposing the penalty.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £135 and a £1,538 victim surcharge, which is used to help fund services supporting victims of crime.
