Hereford is to get another tattoo studio, at a prominent city spot.
A bid by Peter Anthony Masters for permission to convert the former barber’s shop at 52 Eign Gate within the city conservation area has been granted.
A sign with “The Hive” in green, between the first and second floors on the end wall facing the A49 Victoria Street, has also been approved.

There were no official or public objections to either proposal, though Hereford city council requested that the sign not be illuminated, which was granted as a condition of the approval.
Planning officer Simon Rowles said that although there are “several tattoo parlours within reasonable walking distance of the site”, Mr Masters’ proposal “would bring currently empty premises back into active use”.
Meanwhile its “highly sustainable” location meant it “is unlikely to result in a material impact on the local highway network”, nor would it impact on the conservation area, on nearby listed buildings or on the city’s historic walls.
With intended opening hours of 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, “it is not necessary to limit these by condition, given that the new use is not noise-generating,” Mr Rowles added.
