A BURGLAR has been sentenced after stealing a coat from a home in a Herefordshire village.

Daire Kai appeared before magistrates in Hereford for sentencing in November after entering a guilty plea to one count of burglary of a dwelling and theft at an earlier hearing.

The court heard from prosecutor Mark Hambling that the 38-year-old had entered a home in Wellington in Herefordshire as a trespasser on April 24.

While inside the home, he had stolen a blue and green coat of an unknown value, the magistrates were told.

Kai, of Whitecross Road, Hereford, was handed a 12-month community order and fined £50 for the offence, with magistrates saying that they had taken his guilty plea into account when imposing the penalty.

No compensation was ordered to be paid as, magistrates said, none had been sought due to insurance covering the damage.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £185 and a £114 victim surcharge.
