The court heard from prosecutor Ellen Brennan that the 20-year-old, who was represented at the hearing by defence solicitor Jacqui Joseph, had been caught with an item that he knew or believed to be counterfeit currency, namely £50 notes, in Hereford on April 5, 2022.
Mongan, of Millfields Road, Hackney, London, was handed a 12-month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work for the offence and must pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £114 victim surcharge, which is used to help fund services supporting victims of crime.
The counterfeit £50 notes were ordered to be forfeited and destroyed.
