TRAFFIC chaos is likely in Hereford this morning with a busy main road closed by flooding.

Heavy flooding hit the A4103 roundabout at the bottom of Aylestone Hill yesterday as the river Lugg rose in the wake of Storm Henk.

Cars were seen ploughing through deep floodwaters on the road, which connects Hereford and Worcester.

The road between the roundabout and Sutton St Nicholas had already been closed due to heavy flooding, but the A4103 remained open despite being heavily flooded.

A number of cars were seen getting into difficulty and breaking down after becoming waterlogged while attempting to navigate the flood yesterday (January 3), with one driver even seen bailing out water from their car's footwells while parked up on the side of the roundabout.

However the road was not listed on Herefordshire Council's official road closure list until 5.30am this morning.

The road has now been closed, meaning drivers heading from the Bromyard and Worcester direction will need to use another route to head into Hereford this morning.

Drivers coming from that direction can divert along the A417 through Burley Gate to the A49 at Hope under Dinmore and head into Hereford via the Starting Gate roundabout, or cross to the A438 Ledbury road and head into Hereford through Tupsley.

The B4224 from Mordiford to Hampton Park in Hereford is also open this morning, and could be used as an alternative route.

Flood warnings remain in force in Herefordshire this morning after Storm Henk brought heavy rain to the county, however the river Wye peaked in Hereford last night at just over five metres.
