RECENTLY, I listed Trip Advisor's best-rated roast dinners in Herefordshire, and a country pub came out on top with glowing reviews.

I went to the Oak Inn at Staplow, near Ledbury, to try a Sunday roast and see if it was as good as the reviews said.

The way it works at the Oak Inn is that you can choose between a one, two or three-course meal,  charged at £19.50, £25 and £31.50 respectively. The beef is charged at a £3 supplement. If you don't fancy a roast dinner, fish pie is also on the menu.

We decided to opt against starters to make sure we had enough room for the main.

I ordered a hazelnut and mushroom roast, and it came with roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and gravy. The roast carrot and parsnip were beautifully cooked and I also enjoyed the cabbage.

My boyfriend, meanwhile, made a beeline for the roast beef, which he loved, and especially enjoyed the Yorkshire pudding.

We were so full after lunch that we had to give dessert a miss.

Altogether, for two people and one course each, we paid £42 for our Sunday lunch.

The service at the Oak Inn is also great, with friendly and attentive staff and a cosy atmosphere in the pub.

Whether or not it really is the best roast dinner in Herefordshire is difficult to say, as I would need to try every single one in the county to comment on this.

However, judging by the fact that the car park and pub were both jam-packed when we visited, with a sign outside saying lunch was fully booked, it's safe to say it's a popular choice.
