A VANDAL has been ordered to pay hundreds of pounds to a Herefordshire bus company after causing damage needing so much cleaning up that a bus had to be taken out of service for a day.
Stephen Liles entered guilty pleas to one count of causing criminal damage and one count of using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford in January.
The court heard from prosecutor Lauren Millichip that the 64-year-old, who was represented at the hearing by defence solicitor Chris Read, had intentionally or recklessly damaged the rear passenger seat of a bus belonging to Lugg Valley Travel at Dinmore in Herefordshire without lawful excuse on October 28.

Extensive cleaning was required to rectify the damage caused by Liles, with the bus operator losing a day of revenue, the court heard.
He had also used threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause a man harassment, alarm, or distress on the same date, magistrates were told.
Liles, of John Abel Close, Leominster, was fined £200 for the offences, with magistrates saying that they had taken his guilty pleas into account when imposing the penalty.
He was also ordered to pay compensation of £450 to Lugg Valley Travel, £100 to the abusive behaviour victim, prosecution costs of £135, and an £80 victim surcharge.
