A THIEF who stole from a Hereford sports shop has been locked up by magistrates.

David Field entered guilty pleas to one count of theft from a shop, one count of breaching a criminal behaviour order, and one count of failing to surrender to police or court bail at the appointed time when he appeared before magistrates in January.

The court heard from prosecutor Owen Beale that Field, who was represented at the hearing by defence solicitor Mr Hussain, had been caught out after stealing from Hereford's Commercial Street JD Sports shop on January 8.

The 33-year-old had stolen a haul of clothes worth a total of £420 from the shop, magistrates in Hereford were told.

He had also breached a criminal behaviour order imposed by magistrates in Birmingham in November 2022 by entering the Bull Ring in Birmingham on December 13, which he is prohibited by the order from doing, and had failed to surrender to custody at Birmingham magistrates court on January 4, having been released on bail in criminal proceedings by police in Perry Barr on December 14.

Magistrates said that they had taken Field's guilty plea to the charge into account, but that the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified as he has a "flagrant disregard" for court orders.

Field, of The Fold, Birmingham, was jailed for a total of seven days. No order for prosecution costs was made as magistrates said imprisonment was a priority.
