A HEREFORDSHIRE road is to close for nearly three months.

The C1233 will be closed in Pontrilas for 82 days from February 12 to May 3.

This, Herefordshire Council says, is due to retaining wall works and the likelihood danger to life.

The alternative route for anyone affected is via the A465 and onto the B4347.

RELATED NEWS:

It is one of three roads in the county that will be closed from February 12.

Friars Street and Old Eign Hill in Hereford will both be shut for five and four days respectively.

The former will be closed from Barton Road to Whitecross Road, with no alternative route. It is due to remedial works and the likelihood of danger to life while the works are taking place.

It is the second time a matter of months that Friars Street will have been closed.

From January 1 to 5, it was shut due to sewage repair work taking place outside Lexden Court. On that occasion, there was an alternative route.

Meanwhile, new gas supply work is the reason why Old Eign Hill will be closed.

The alternative route for anyone affected by the proposal is via Hafod Road, Ledbury Road, Church Road and Hampton Dene Road before rejoining Old Eign Hill.

OTHER NEWS:

Elsewhere, Southbank Road will be closed for two days from January 29 due to wall works.

The alternative route is via Aylestone Hill and Folly Lane.

On the same day, the B4348 will be shut from Cross Lodge to Poston Mill Park in Peterchurch for 12 nights. This is due to resurfacing works, with the alternative route being via the B4352 and B4349.
