FLOODING has hit some roads in Herefordshire this morning after heavy rain arrived in the county.

Large collections of water have gathered on many roads across the county this morning (February 8), including the A465 between Bromyard and Hereford, with water covering both lanes at Crick's Green.

There are also large collections of water on the A49 between Ross-on-Wye and Hereford.

Flood alerts

Flood alerts are currently in force in Herefordshire for the river Lugg south of Leominster, the river Wye in Herefordshire, the river Arrow in Herefordshire, the river Frome in Herefordshire and the river Leadon catchment. 

The Environment Agency said flooding is expected to affect low-lying land and roads along the River Wye from Hay on Wye to Ross on Wye. Other locations that may be affected include Byford, Bredwardine and Hereford. 

Flooding is also expected to affect low-lying land and roads adjacent to the river Lugg south of Leominster from Stoke Prior to Mordiford. Other locations that may be affected include Bodenham, Lugwardine and Hampton Bishop.

Along the Arrow, flooding is expected to affect low-lying land and roads from Michaelchurch to Brierley, with Kington, Staunton and Eardisland also possibly affected. For the Frome, flooding is expected to affect areas from Bromyard to Hereford, including Bishops Frome and Yarkhill, while Ledbury, Much Marcle, Bosbury and Bromsberrow could also be affected along the Leadon catchment.

Weather warnings

Weather warnings for snow are in force to the north of Herefordshire today and tomorrow, while a weather warning for rain is in force to the south of Herefordshire. 

Herefordshire is not currently subject to any Met Office weather warnings, but these could still affect us as they cover the Wye upstream from the county.

The Met Office said today will be cloudy with outbreaks of heavy rain which are likely to turn to sleet and snow in the north of the region, easing somewhat during the afternoon. It will be blustery at times and feel chilly.

Tonight will remain cloudy with another band of heavy rain pushing northwards later in the evening before clearing up in the early hours.

Friday will remain rather unsettled, the Met Office said, with showery outbreaks of rain turning heavier at times.
