A MAN has been fined after stealing electricity in Hereford.
David Styles entered a guilty plea to one count of theft when he appeared before magistrates in Kidderminster.
The court heard from prosecutor Thomas Wickstead that on February 2, Styles had stolen £30 of electricity from a company supplying it.
Electricity theft can involve tampering with an electric meter so that it doesn't accurately record the amount of electricity being used, or bypassing the meter completely so that it doesn't record any electricity usage at all.
Electricity theft is punishable in both civil and criminal courts.

40-year-old Styles, of Coningsby Street, Hereford, admitted to the theft at a hearing on February 14, where he was represented by defence solicitor Jason Patel.
Styles was handed a £40 fine and was ordered to pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £75.
Magistrates said they took his guilty plea into account when imposing the sentence.
