WHILE the motives of the council to “motivate” home owners of empty property to sell or rent them as a means of providing extra housing for presently homeless or low income families may be laudable their strategy is fatally flawed (How they will spend our £s, February 15).
The prices and rental costs of private dwellings is governed by market forces not council rhetoric. Low income and homeless people cannot afford these prices.

Letters should not exceed 250 words and local issues take precedence.
The motive offered to private empty home owners is to tax them into submission in future by applying 200 and 300 per cent charges for no services whatever.
The council, meanwhile, has done little or nothing to prove that this action will give them their wishes.
