Telecoms giant BT has shared plans for their phone services that will affect more than 30 million UK customers.
The change of services will see BT shut down its traditional analogue landline service and make the step towards internet-based service that is set to be in place by the end of 2025.
The update to phone services will affect anyone who uses BT's network, as the telecom service shared they would be contacting all 30 million customers.
However, BT has told its customers that although they are introducing internet service, "the landline is here to stay" and that there will be "no impact" on how people use phones.
BT to switch to internet service affecting all phone users
The internet switchover has already begun as BT shared that they hope all of their 30 million customers will be using digital phone services by the end of 2025.
Since September 2023, all new customers to the telecom service or have renewed their contracts have been placed on internet-based services.
Discussing the change, BT told Birmingham Live: "We aim to finish the upgrade by 2025 and you’ll be switched over from your home phone service to Digital Voice when it’s available to you.
"As your household becomes more connected, we’re bringing all our technologies together onto one smart network to improve the quality of the service you get from us. Digital Voice is our next-generation home phone service."
BT also shared why they wanted to make the upgrade adding: "We’re upgrading our network to enable future technologies and to make it easier for you to connect on any device at home or on the go. Over the coming years, we’ll roll out this new home phone service to our customers across the UK.

"For most households, upgrading to Digital Voice will have no impact on how you use your phone today.
"Digital Voice will give you the same reliability, trust and familiarity of your current home phone service and it will enable new benefits and features, such as crystal clear calls and the ability to block nuisance calls at the touch of a button."
BT has also urged anyone with concerns over the change to services to contact them.
