IT seems your letter writer is a little confused (Letters, February 15).
Our PM is an elected politician. As are the councillors in your council, which includes the leader (equivalent to the PM at local government level). Despite the full-time nature and heavy responsibilities of these full-time posts, they are paid far less than senior government or local government employees. Did you ask what senior civil servants are paid?

Our chief executive is responsible for about 900 staff and his salary reflects his executive role. As for the planters, that was the idea of the previous Greens and Independent coalition.
The current Conservative administration is radically improving efficiency, increasing services and balancing the budget. And addressing potholes.
