A MAN has been jailed for a drunken incident in Hereford in which he was carrying a knife.
Paul Hughes pleaded guilty to one count of being drunk and disorderly in a public place and one count of possessing a knife blade in a public place.
Hughes, aged 57, was caught with a knife in Hereford on November 25 last year. He was also drunk and behaving in a disorderly way.
He is already in prison, and was sentenced at Hereford Magistrates’ Court to a further 26 weeks in custody.
Lauren Millichip, prosecuting, said the incident was in the city’s St Peter’s Square, and that Hughes possessed a Stanley knife with a pointed blade. He was drunk and disorderly at the time.

The court heard that the incident pre-dated the offence that landed him in prison.
His guilty plea was taken into account by magistrates when they came to their decision, but they said that the offences were so serious that only more time in custody could be justified.
The offence was also aggravated because it was committed while Hughes was on bail.
An order was made for the Stanley knife to be forfeited and destroyed, and Hughes was told to pay a victim surcharge of £154 by Christmas.
