A WOMAN who has taken over a historic Hereford social club said she wouldn't have gone anywhere else.

Sharon Haighway became the new manager of Hereford Military Club at the start of the year after previous manager, Jason Plant decided to step down. 

The social club, which has been in Friars Street since 1898, has had a refurbishment.

This includes a new darts area with three boards, new toilets and three newly covered snooker tables. 

Its popular skittles alley also remains at the club.

"I said to my husband that I love the club and decided I want to take it over," said Mrs Haighway, who used to work at the Baynham garage in Whitecross Road.

"There are lovely people who use the club and they all look after each other.

"I just like the feel of it and I wouldn't have gone anywhere else to take on a bar. I just wanted to keep it going."
