Queenswood Arboretum café in Herefordshire, reopens

The Woodland Café at Queenswood is now managed by Herefordshire Wildlife Trust (HWT), which also looks after the arboretum, wider woodland, visitor centre and other facilities on the site in Dinmore, off the A49.

There is a family-friendly menu that includes breakfast and lunch to eat-in, options for picnics in the woods, mouth-watering cakes to enjoy after a long walk, and ice cream. Plant-based and gluten-free options are also available.

HWT says sustainability is at at the heart of what it is offering, including sourcing over 70 per cent of all food and drink from local suppliers, using plant-based packaging and reducing waste.

As an extra incentive, visitors who spend over £20 in the café or visitor centre will receive free parking for the day. All profits made by the café will contribute to funding the trust’s work at Queenswood managing the arboretum, conserving the native woodlands for wildlife and improving visitor facilities and accessibility across the site.

The cafe's opening hours have been extended to 9am to 5pm daily, with longer openings in the summer, and pets are welcome.

“We’re delighted to be welcoming visitors back to the café and look forward to their feedback on the new menu," said Max Smith, commercial manager at HWT.

"We have a great team of experienced staff running the café who are keen to ensure everyone feels welcome and well looked after. We will be developing seasonal offers and adding to the menu through the summer so please do pop in and see what you think.”

The café had been shut since February. All furniture and kitchen appliances were put up for sale prior to the closure, before HWT took it over.

Queenswood Country Park and Arboretum is one of the most visited woodlands in the county, with thousands of families visiting every year. 

Comprising 123 acres of ancient native woodland, it is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), surrounding a 47-acre tree collection with over 1,200 rare and exotic trees from all over the world.
