SHOULD we build a bypass, and if so, to the east or west (Revised western bypass: what are pros and cons? April 4)?
I believe that this is a question of such great importance, that it requires a more independent and better-informed organisation than our present, or indeed any, council, to decide. Especially when one protagonist, councillor Philip Price, seems to hold sway.

The bypass would have a profound effect on the city and surrounding countryside. Once built, it cannot be undone.
Sadly, of course, the increase in traffic, both its size and number, will continue. If found in the course of time to have been a disastrous decision, future generations will curse us.
