A raid on a Hereford takeaway restaurant found evidence of immigration breaches and money laundering, according to police.

A “multi-agency tasking and enforcement operation” was carried out at the Ruby Chinese takeaway in the city’s Union Street on April 11, according to a report by police licensing officer PC Dean Wall.

Police arrested five people for immigration offences and money laundering, and seized a “large sum of money” along with electronic devices and paperwork.

PC Wall’s report has been put forward as the basis for a move to have the takeaway’s premises licence withdrawn.

“The employment of illegal immigrants and suspected money laundering offences are very serious, as a result the licensing objectives of the prevention of crime and disorder has been undermined,” his report says.

More detailed evidence of the alleged officences will be provided in closed session at the review hearing to consider the licensing move, it adds.

A similar previous investigation in 2018 also highlighted immigration offences at the takeaway, leading to a two-month suspension of its licence.

Its owner Sinh Quang Tran was also ordered to pay more than £7,000 after being found to have housed a worker unsafely in a pantry with prison-like bars over the windows.
