TRAFFIC signals at some of Hereford's busiest junctions are to be improved to help ease congestion in the city.
Over the coming months, the the lights at Aylestone Hill/Commercial Road; Widemarsh Street/Commercial Road/St Owen Street; and Whitecross Road/Eign Street are all set to be upgraded as part of a £541,000 government funding.

The improvements will include replacing in-road vehicle detection with more modern and reliable above ground options, and the replacement and reconfiguration of controllers to make them more efficient.

According to Herefordshire Council, it will allow for interaction and coordination of signals along the major routes into Hereford, including with the signals along the A49 which are controlled by National Highways.
Councillor Barry Durkin, cabinet member for roads and regulatory services, said: “This is further investment in our road network.
"Upgrading the traffic signals at busy junctions will ensure they can be better coordinated across the whole road network. This will help to improve traffic flow and safety, which will a much better experience for everyone travelling around our city.”
