A HEREFORDSHIRE school is celebrating after gaining a 'good' Ofsted report.

According to inspectors, Peterchurch Primary School has improved a lot and provides pupils with many positive experiences.

It was also praised for having well organised lessons, enabling pupils to make good progress in their learning and enjoying their time at the school.

"Since the previous inspection, new leadership has brought fresh energy and direction to the school," said Martin Pye and Liz Vaultier-Thomas, who conducted the inspection.

"The significant impact of this is evident in many ways. The curriculum has been redesigned and class organisation has been reviewed to provide greater consistency.

"Staff have clear guidance to follow so they know what to teach and when. This means that the right things get taught and lessons build logically on earlier learning. These changes have been supported by appropriate staff training.

"In addition, subject leaders have dedicated time to checking how well the curriculum is working. Staff, pupils and parents express positive views about the school’s warm culture and ethos. Indeed, there is united agreement from staff that leaders support them to do their jobs well and are equally mindful of their workload and welfare."

The Golden Valley-based school was also told that its safeguarding methods were effective, and there were plenty of other things to do beyond the classroom.

"From after-school gardening and dance clubs to coastal trips, book festivals and more, the school does much to broaden pupils’ interests," reads the report.

"On top of this, the school has strengthened links with the local community. Pupils get a good grounding in what it means to make a positive contribution to society.

"A supportive, positive and ambitious culture flavours learning and school life."

Nia Powell, headteacher at Peterchurch Primary School said: “This Ofsted report is a momentous achievement that fills me with immense pride as the headteacher of Peterchurch Primary School.

"I extend my deepest appreciation to our dedicated staff and volunteers, wonderful students, supportive community, and the governing body, for their remarkable contributions.

"Together, we have created an inclusive environment that nurtures all, encourages personal development, and ignites a love for learning.”
