HEREFORD has been named the best in the UK for relaxing walks.
Known for its rural settings, especially around the river Wye, the city came top in a list of locations compiled by Injury Claims, which analysed over 200,000 reviews of popular parks across 74 major UK cities and town.
The locations were ranked on the percentage of Tripadvisor reviews which mentioned words such as ‘relaxing’, ‘calm’, ‘peaceful’ and ‘tranquil’. Hereford finished with an index score of 28.88 percent.

However, it seems that the surrounding areas of Hereford were also included. This includes the Weir Garden, in Swainshill, which was praised for having well-manicured lawns, wooded areas, and a garden surrounded by a wall. The National Trust-owned site is ranked number five on Tripadvisor's list of top attractions in the city, and is the highest in the nature and wildlife areas category.
One visitor, known as Sosen E, said: ‘Really lovely easy stop off on our trip away. Such a beautiful and tranquil spot. Very well kept, a little hidden gem, dog and child-friendly with lovely staff at the entrance hut! Will definitely return with the rest of the family’.
Another commenter, Durutydelloyd, who visited in the winter, shared: ‘It was such a joy to walk around the garden and take in the countryside air and follow the meandering paths which ran in parallel to the fast running River Wye.’
Second on the list was Bristol, ahead of Lincoln, Milton Keynes and Oxford. Completing the top 10 are Gloucester, Swansea, Carlisle, Warrington and Newcastle upon Tyne.
London meanwhile, which has 3,000 parks, was surprisingly ranked 26th.
