Pact possibility

WITH the election coming up, and with the dreadful current system of first past the post, where many votes are wasted, would it not be sensible if the anti-Tory parties made an election pact?

For instance, the Lib Dems could leave North Herefordshire to the Greens, and the Greens could leave Hereford and South Herefordshire to the Lib Dems (who have held it quite recently).

Then maybe we would have a chance of getting some different MPs in Herefordshire. Labour has very little chance in these rural constituencies.

Of course, both parties will refuse this possibility, to the Tories’ delight.

Be prepared

WITH the election countdown under way, canvassers and party candidates have started knocking on doors to ask about our voting intentions.

Have you ever found yourself thinking of something important after they’ve walked away? If so, why not have some questions ready?

Here are some ideas.

  1. How would you assist businesses and decisionmakers in tackling the climate emergency?
  2. What do you think are the key issues in Herefordshire which are overlooked?
  3. Why don’t all new-build homes have something other than gas central heating as standard?
  4. What plans do you have to tackle pollution?
  5. Would you go against your party whip in matters of principle and personal integrity?

Politicians are meant to work for us. Make sure you know what each stands for before you vote.
