Herefordshire fencing manufacturer and supplier receives prestigious award at what is considered its industry’s “Oscars”.

Herefordshire-based fencing company Walford Timber has been crowned Benchmark Treater of the Year at the coveted WPA (Wood Protection Association) Awards.

The ceremony, dedicated to celebrating innovation within the UK’s timber treatment industry, hailed the family-run firm as a leader in timber treatment. The accolade recognises Ross-On-Wye-based Walford Timber’s dedication to best practice across all its key areas of business, including its quality management scheme and skilled plant operations.

Hereford Times: The award itself

Businesses such as Walford Timber cannot enter the award category themselves and are instead nominated based on the result of an annual onsite inspection carried out by WPA Benchmark Auditors, making the local firm’s award even more impressive an achievement.

For customers of the winning firm and homeowners, the award serves as recognition of the quality of their processes and their commitment to products that are made to last.

George Smith, Managing Director of Walford Timber, was presented with the award by WPA awards sponsor Neil Ryan. “We would like to extend a massive thank you to WPA for hosting a superb event, and congratulations to the team that made it possible,” Mr Smith said.

He described their victory as “the ultimate seal of approval; it doesn’t get much better!” and as a “testament to our team’s hard work and commitment and further shines a spotlight on businesses across the region.”

WPA director Neil Ryan remarked on the award’s purpose to “celebrate the best timber treaters and products, the innovative and forward-thinking businesses and the dedicated individuals who make our industry great”, continuing to say how “difficult” the judges found selecting the winners with the high standard of entries.

“As one of the first to achieve WPA Benchmark certification for their preservative treatment facility, Walford Timber has maintained a high standard ever since. They were also one of the first treaters in the UK to embrace incising technology. We congratulate them on their deserved win as Benchmark Treater of the Year,” Mr Ryan concluded.
