NEWTON Court is known for its spectacular Herefordshire ciders, but did you know the business also runs a cafe, restaurant and bar.

I swung by their ‘chapel of apple’ in Newton Lane, just outside of Leominster, for a spot of lunch to see whether their locally sourced food is just as good as their cider.

Upon entering I was impressed by the modern yet rustic aesthetic of the restaurant, with a farm shop at the front of the building, a bar in the centre and a spacious dining area towards the back. The agricultural decorations give the location a great ‘Herefordshire’ feel without being overly kitsch or cliche.

The menu was full of classic British dishes such as fish pie, ploughman’s lunch, quiche and ham, egg and chips, as well as some international meals like butter chicken curry and lentil dahl. Since I’m not particularly culinarily adventurous, I decided to order the beef burger and fries, which cost me £15.50, and a Diet Coke which cost £2.50.

I decided to check out the farm shop, which is housed onsite, whilst I was waiting for my order and was pretty blown away by what they had on offer. As well as selling their own extensive range of ciders and branded merchandise, they also stock a great number of goods from other local producers. Beers, gins, crisps, crafts and wines from all over the county are up for grabs, making it a great place for buying gifts and stocking up for a dinner party or other event.

My burger was brilliantly presented with classy dinnerware immediately establishing a premium feel. The burger itself was sourced from Quarry Farm, just over five miles from Newton Court, meaning low food miles and high quality. A generous helping of cheese, bacon and relish brought the whole meal together and the fries were a great accompaniment.

The meal wasn’t flashy or complicated, but it never set out to be, they took a simple dish and put a great subtly sophisticated twist on it.

I would highly recommend stopping by Newton Court for lunch if you happen to be passing through the Leominster area. I would also suggest the restaurant as a ‘must try’ for visitors to the county as the brilliant food paired with the exceptional ciders and local goods from the farm shop give a great idea of the bounty that Herefordshire has to offer.
