A HEREFORDSHIRE first aider has been awarded a very special medal for her efforts at the Coronation
At the St John Ambulance annual rededication service, Katie Devey was awarded the King Charles III Coronation medal.
Ms Devey was awarded the medal by the King’s representative in the county, Lord-Lieutenant Edward Harley. She is an adult leader with Wyeside Badgers and one of the team that provides first aid cover for events.
St John’s Badger programme is designed for five to 10-year-olds and covers a wide range of subjects and activities, from first aid to communication skills, to healthy living and being safe.

All of those on duty for the parade were eligible for the award of the Coronation Medal, but Ms Devey is the only St John Ambulance recipient in Herefordshire.
Ms Devey joined St Johns Ambulance's Badgers when she was 5 and has provided first aid cover at the London Marathon, attended the Queen’s Platinum Garden Party at Buckingham Palace and taught First Aid to MPs at the Houses of Parliament. She was District Cadet of The Year in 2022 and Hereford Junior Mayor in 2018/19.
Now a student at Hereford Sixth Form College, Ms Devey has plans to pursue a career as a paramedic and is thrilled with her award.
She remembers the Coronation parade as a fantastic event. Fortunately, her first aid skills weren’t called upon!
