FREE CAR parking may be coming to one Herefordshire town after weeks of improvement works closed town centre streets.

Improvement works have shut down Leominster’s Corn Square and High Street for a number of weeks, restricting access to roads and greatly reducing the number of parking spaces in the town, with some locals calling for parking to be made free in order to increase accessibility and encourage visitors.

A recently published letter written by North Herefordshire's Conservative parliamentary candidate Sir Bill Wiggin has revealed that ‘car parking relief’ may soon be granted in Leominster, implying free or reduced rates.

“I completely appreciate the concerns businesses have regarding the impact the work in Corn Square is having on trade in the town,” said Sir Bill in the letter.

“That is why I have spoken to the Conservative leader of Herefordshire Council, Councillor Jonathan Lester, on two separate occasions to raise these concerns.

“He has assured me that a package including financial support and car parking relief, similar to the one recently given to Ross-on-Wye, will be made available to Leominster very soon.
