Start using local companies with shorter contracts and have a penalty clause written into the contract as we used to do 40 or 50 years ago. That way we have control.

There are many local companies who could take on sections of the contracts. Most important is to get a tarmac firm whose only job is to repair and replace our road surfaces. But again with a penalty clause to ensure we are getting value for money.
I really hope this comes to pass.
