A HEREFORDSHIRE main road will close for a month for major bridge works.

The A438 is set to close between Hagley and Dormington at Five Bridges, Bartestree, from July 22 to August 20, a Balfour Beatty Living Places spokesperson said.

The works will include excavating the road and strengthening the bridge in a saddling scheme.

Herefordshire Council has also published a notice of intention to make a temporary HGV restriction order to ban the use of lorries on the C1148 from Stoke Edith to Yarkhill and the C1130 Whitestone to Bartestree for the duration of the closure.

The council said the restriction, which will come into force on July 22, is required due to the anticipated increases in traffic volumes and associated risks to the public on these routes due to the closure of the A438 at Bartestree.

There are provisions in the order to allow lorries to access land and frontages on the affected roads, Herefordshire Council said.
