A MAN has been fined for selling vapes to a child.
Herefordshire Council has brought enforcement action against the sale of vapes containing nicotine, an age-restricted product, to young people under 18.
Ako Sobhi Mohamad, 42, of Condercum Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, was prosecuted at Hereford Magistrates’ Court on July 9.
The court heard that he sold two flavoured vapes, one red apple ice and one Red Bull strawberry, to an under-18 on October 21 last year,
He was fined £120 and ordered to pay court costs of £486.58 and a victim surcharge of £48, after pleading guilty to one count of selling nicotine-inhaling products to a person aged under 18.

Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had made plans to ban disposable vapes from UK shops altogether in a bid to protect children’s health.
According to the previous Conservative Government, the number of children using vapes tripled in the last three years with strong evidence to suggest that disposable vapes are partly to blame.
The Government had been planning to regulate vape flavours, packaging and how they are displayed in shops, with trading standards allowed to issue “on the spot” fines of up to £100 to anyone selling tobacco and vapes to children.
