POLICE have released CCTV images of a man following a rape investigation that was launched in Hereford this morning (Friday, July 12).

The investigation comes after reports that a woman had been raped on Hereford Cathedral grounds at around 3am.

Officers are keen to identify the person pictured as they believe he may be able to help with enquiries.

The CCTV images were taken late yesterday evening (Thursday, July 11) at The Venue in Hereford, prior to the incident.

Anyone who recognises this man, or has any information that may help, is asked to call the investigating officers on 01432 347277.

The alleged rape took place near Hereford Cathedral, with the Cathedral Close being cordoned off this morning as police investigate.

Detective Inspector Ben Pearson said: “I understand that this incident will cause significant concern within the local community, but I’d like to reassure the public that we are carrying out a thorough investigation.

“There will be an increased police presence near to the cathedral as we carry out enquiries, and the victim is been supported by specially trained officers.

“Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, and may have seen anything or have information or dash-cam footage, which may help with the investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”
