A HEREFORDSHIRE site manager has been named as one of Britain's best with a top national award.

Senior site manager Matt Creed, 29, who oversaw the construction of Barratt Homes' Hawk Rise development in Ledbury, has won a Pride in the Job award from the National House Building Council (NHBC), an award known as the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry.

Site managers working for Barratt Homes’ parent company, Barratt Developments, have won 89 Pride in the Job awards this year alone.

Mr Creed has had a seven-year career with the housebuilder and has been awarded his second Pride in the Job award for the high standards set at Hawk Rise, which is now sold out.

He has been in the industry for 13 years, having spent the first six as a plumber, before becoming an assistant site manager at the Bishop Fields development in Hereford.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling to win my second Pride in the Job award," Mr Creed said.

"I was speechless when I found out about my first award last year, I didn’t think it was real at first, so to win my second award in two years is an incredible feeling! I’d like to thank everyone on site for their hard work in achieving this.

“Hawk Rise has been a really good development, and there was a strong morale on site throughout its life cycle. Everything was completed to a brilliant standard and, whilst there are easier ways to operate, no-one cut any corners to meet a higher quality and the award shows how valuable that is.”

The awards recognise the very best site managers across the country, with over 8,000 being entered into the awards annually. Each is judged on a strict criteria including technical expertise, health and safety, leadership and attention to detail.

The competition is at the heart of raising standards in housebuilding, with the awards showcasing the role site managers play in ensuring much-needed new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites, and to the highest quality standards.
