A GP surgery in Leominster has been nominated for a top award for its "dedicated and well-trained staff".

Ryeland Surgery, located in Westfield Walk, is responsible for 19,000 patients in the area.

Nominator Thomas William Hudson said he wanted to nominate Ryeland Surgery for a Hereford Times Health and Social Care award, specifically for GP practice of the year, because "throughout this practice the staff are dedicated and well-trained".

He added: "From reception, through the organisation, to the principal doctors, one gets the impression that the staff care.

"One of the principal GPs, Doctor Crispin Fisher, could be used as a model for a GP. He has a kind manner and gives the impression that he really cares and understands one's problems.

"He looks into one's enquiries and if he is unable to give an immediate assessment will seek advice and come back to you.

"My wife and I believe that it is Doctor Fisher's influence with careful staff selection and training which raises this practice to the top of the pile."

According to Ryeland Surgery, Doctor Fisher trained at Cambridge University and St Thomas' Hospital in London, completing his GP training locally and then working for two years as a GP in the Falkland Islands.

He has been actively involved in the merger of the two Leominster surgeries to create Ryeland Surgery, and is working to achieve a new primary care centre in Leominster.

What are the Health and Social Care Awards?

The Health and Social Care Awards are an annual award ceremony, held by the Hereford Times, to recognise the hard work, dedication, innovation, and care delivered across our county’s health and social care sector. With focus on the individuals and their stories, it’s the people who make the difference.

In recent years, the people of Herefordshire have shown their support for the awards by nominating someone they know who deserves it. We hope that communities will join together once more in celebrating people like Altogether Care.

The Health and Social Care Awards 2024 will take place on Thursday October 3, 7pm at the Hereford racecourse, but the closing date for nominations is August 4, 2024.
