HEREFORDSHIRE pupils took to the streets for an Olympics-themed summer parade to kick off their school fair.

The parade has become a school tradition at Peterchurch Primary School uniting the whole community in cheering on the pupils and having a great time. Each year, a new theme is chosen for the parade.

Last year's parade was inspired by Broadway with a musical theme, but this year’s procession was going to be paying homage to the landmark sporting event that is the Olympics.

Every class chose an Olympic country, which they would learn about in cross-curricular lessons, ready to dress up and perform a song linked to their chosen country on the big day.

The anticipation for the event is only built upon the fact it opens the school’s summer fair where, alongside local stalls and the local fire brigade and police support, Peterchurch Primary’s year five and six children try their hands at entrepreneurship.

The children had established their own business plans and, using a £5.00 start-up fee, aimed to successfully turn a profit using their innovative stalls. The profit they make was then to be used to buy a legacy item for the school.

A parent from the primary school described the summer parade was “an absolute delight” and “such a happy end to a fantastic academic year for Peterchurch Primary School,” commenting on the children’s “beaming smiles” as they dressed up and sang.
