HEREFORDSHIRE was the star of the BBC show Escape to the Country this week.

Joined by presenter Briony May Williams were house hunters Kevin and Lizzie.

The couple were hoping to move from their home near Belfast to live closer to their family in Herefordshire.

The couple recently retired and were keen to settle in Herefordshire, near their daughter who lives close to Hereford.

With a budget of £550,000 to play with, the programme, aired on July 22, saw the couple first visit a home in Kingstone, where presenter Briony showed them around the first home on the list.

Boasting three bedrooms and a large garden, the home initially appeared to impress, with Lizzie underestimating its £550,000 (August 2023) asking price by more than £50,000.

This home is now on the market with a guide price of £499,950.

Next up was a trip to Withington Marsh, where the couple were shown around a former post office converted into a house with a third of an acre of land and a price tag of £500,000.

The couple weren’t sold on the home when they saw the outside, but once they saw the interior they said it was “almost perfect”.

For the mystery house, they visited a home in Westhope.

The £550,000 three-bed house came with half an acre of garden and impressed the couple, who said they would “happily pay to stay there” but didn’t want to live there permanently. Kevin described the view as “one of the most beautiful in the world”.

During the episode, the couple also paid a visit to Bromyard and explored the town's businesses and surrounding countryside.

The couple eventually decided to look into the former post office in Withington Marsh, and said their next steps would be to speak to the owner.
