A HEREFORDSHIRE main road has reopened this morning after a serious crash.

The A49 was closed for several hours yesterday evening (July 23) and overnight after a serious crash involving a car and a motorbike.

National Highways said last night that the road closure between the A465 at the Asda roundabout and the B4399 at Grafton was likely to be in force throughout the evening, with diversion routes in place.

The extended closure was due to a police investigation being carried out at the scene, with National Highways confirming that the A49 would reopen when that was concluded.

The road reopened at around 1.20am this morning (July 24).

A police spokesperson said officers were called at around 7pm yesterday evening on the A49, Ross Road in Hereford following a crash between a motorcycle and a car.

A man in his 30’s was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. Enquiries are now ongoing.

An ambulance service spokesperson confirmed that three ambulances, a paramedic officer, the air ambulance from Strensham, and the Midlands Air Ambulance critical car were all called to the scene.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was the motorcyclist," the spokesperson said.

"He was found to have suffered serious injuries in the collision and following treatment at the scene, was taken to Hereford County Hospital by land ambulance."

A further crash has also closed the A49 near Ross-on-Wye this morning, with traffic being diverted down local routes.
