THREE people have been detained after breaking in to Hereford's Three Counties Hotel.

The Belmont Road site is earmarked for demolition after planning permission was passed earlier this year for a new Lidl supermarket to be built on the site.

Police received a report that around 15 people had unlawfully gained access to the site and buildings through the perimeter fence, a West Mercia Police spokesperson said.

"Due to the imminent renovation of the hotel and construction equipment onsite, there are also safety concerns with the building in a severe state of disrepair."

Officers are continuing to investigate the report and are seeking to identify further members of the group.
