The likely start and completion date of Hereford’s new transport hub project in front of the city’s railway station have been announced.
In response to a public question at a full council meeting on July 26, Herefordshire Council’s cabinet member for transport and infrastructure Philip Price put the forecast total cost of Hereford Transport Hub at £9.8 million.
“Construction is expected to start by December 2024 and take around 12 months to build,” he told fellow councillors.

The council granted itself planning permission for the project on May 1, though criticisms remain about several aspects of the project including how it will connect with the wider city.

But Coun Price said a £2-million package of “active travel” measures covering connection between the hub, Commercial Road and the A438 Blueschool Street and Newmarket Street, “awaits completion of car parking review for the city to inform (its) final design”.
The council is meanwhile preparing a local transport plan, setting the county’s aims for the next five years for all forms of transport modes including bus and rail.
A draft version of this “will be in the public domain for consultation within the next six months”, Coun Price said.
