A YELLOW thunderstorm warning has been issued for Herefordshire, with potential threat of lightning, hail and heavy winds in certain areas.
The alert will be in place on Thursday, August 1 from midday and continue for the rest of the afternoon. There is a risk of significant showers which could develop and reach levels of 20-30 mm within an hour in some places, although the exact locations are still unknown.
There may also be areas that experience multiple showers and experience a 24 hour accumulation of up to 70-90 mm.
For some, there is a possibility of flash flooding, impacting homes and businesses, so the Met Office has advised those who may be affected to ensure that they have a flood plan in case of an emergency.
The chances are that driving conditions and public transport will see disruption if torrential showers do occur, potentially leading to some road closures and alterations to train and bus services. It is recommended to check road conditions and public transport timetables for changes if travelling to avoid delays as much as possible.
