With rising temperatures and glorious bouts of sunshine now upon us in the county- what could be a better treat than a cold ice cream?

With some of the finest produce around- it’s no shock Herefordshire has some of the best ice creams on offer.

We’ve put together a list of the four best ice creams in Herefordshire- as rated by you on Google reviews.

Rowlestone Farm Ice cream shop, near Pontrilas

Based near the Welsh Black Mountains, this long-established ice cream parlour carefully curates ice cream that is derived from “Real luxury dairy ice cream made on the farm from our own cows’ milk and cream, egg yolk and sugars”.

The website encourages visitors to not only enjoy their carefully produced ice creams, but to relax in the adjoining café offering a selection of cakes and sandwiches.

Gary Burgess, writing a Google review about the farm shop said: “Always take our visitors to Rowleston. We were there this weekend for ice creams, service great as usual despite it being busy.

Came home with a 2.5 litre tub of their whisky and marmalade ice cream.”

Oakchurch Farm Shop

Offering award winning homemade gelato ice cream and sorbets, the farm shop, on Brecon Road in Staunton on Wye is renowned in the county for selling some of Herefordshire's best produce.

The gelato ice creams are all made from locally sourced ingredients, with any fruits used being freshly picked from the surrounding areas of the farm shop.

The local shop even offers a speciality dog ice cream for visiting furry friends- which according to Oakchurch leaves them “barking mad!”

Intriguing flavours include; Turkish delight, Cherry Amaretto, Lemon meringue and their three star award winning raspberry sorbet.

One Google reviewer Mair Barron wrote: “Just love everything about this place...the choice of quality goods, the staff, the restaurant, their homemade ice-cream....roll on next time !!! Best farm shop and garden centre around! Can't wait to return”

Shepherds ice cream parlour, Hay-on-Wye

Based in the picturesque town of Hay-on-Wye, the parlour serves speciality seasonal flavours, as well as much loved popular choices. Some of the speciality flavours served include toffee honeycomb, a plant-based lime and coconut, and damson and sloe gin.

The parlour sells Shepherds ice cream, made in Peter church in Herefordshire. The company also offers an ice cream trailer for various events, known as the “little shepherds parlour”.

One Google reviewer, Tim Jones said: “Nice coffee and decent selection of ice-cream flavours. Very friendly staff are happy to let you sample their wares if unsure. You can sit inside or outside on the fork between two roads to enjoy your caffeinated and sugary treats!”

Berry’s Ice cream

Berry’s luxury ice cream, which has been produced for over thirty years, is a well-loved Herefordshire treat. Berry’s founder, Rachel Hicks, said the companies main goal has always been “to produce the very best hand-made and hand-poured ice cream using only natural ingredients with the juiciest, locally grown fruits wherever possible".

Some of the mouth-watering flavours include Gooseberry and Elderflower, Mince Pie and Ginger crush. The ice-creams are sold at venues across the county, including at Marden Village Stores and The Crown Inn at Woolhope.

One Google reviewer, Anthea Farr said: “Quite simply THE best chocolate ice cream I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Double delight in knowing it is is produced locally.”
