Photos of yesterday's major fire at The Sawmills, Lower Lulham Farm in Madley have been posted on Facebook by Peterchurch Fire Station.

The fire services were initially called out to the industrial fire at 4:33am. Peterchurch represented one of the 14 fire engines at the scene in total - two from Hereford, and one from Leominster, Eardisley, Ewyas Harold, Fownhope, Ross-on-Wye, Kington, Kingsland, Upton-upon-Severn, Bromsgrove, Malvern and Wyre Forest Fire Stations.

Peterchurch Fire Station say the fire "quickly accelerated to an extremely large fire involving various building, equipment and timber." All of the many fire service attendees "worked to get the fire under control."

At 10:20am, the fire had forced Hereford Highways to close the nearby roads due to its significance. As of 11:34am, the 80 by 40 metre site of the fire was being tackled in sectors, being fought using three compressed air foam system jets and five main water jets.

Eight jets, one hose reel jet and the aerial ladder platform were still being used to fight the fire, however.

At 3.25pm, farm machinery was being used to make a fire break at the scene and at 4.30pm, good progress was continuing to be made. The fire has been scaled back significantly, but a ground monitor and three main jets still remained at the scene as of 4:30pm.
