BRAVE knights will be battling it out at a Herefordshire castle this weekend.

English Heritage will be welcoming some special guests to Goodrich Castle in Herefordshire this summer. On the weekend of August 17 and 18, two chivalric warriors will be fighting for glory at Fighting Knights.

Visitors can watch these knights don their armour before putting their strength and skill to the test in combat shows throughout the day.

There will be interactive family activities for everyone to get involved in that will transport you back to the castle’s medieval heyday.

Children can also take part in the castle’s summer quest activity throughout the holidays, which sets challenges for young adventurers to complete during their visit.

Ella Harrison, events manager at English Heritage, said: “We know there’s nothing quite so magical as watching our historical performers do battle in a spectacular heritage site, so we’re very pleased to be holding Fighting Knights at Goodrich Castle in August. We hope the event will bring to life what it was like in the castle centuries ago for visitors.”

Goodrich Castle is set in a strategic, but beautiful spot overlooking a crossing point of the river Wye, and remains one of the country’s best preserved medieval castles. In fact, it contains the only surviving mortar from the Civil War, named Roaring Meg.

Entry to Fighting Knights is included in the price of admission. For more information on Goodrich Castle, visit www.english-heritage.org.uk.
