A FORMER Mickey Mouse illustrator has celebrated a very big birthday in Herefordshire.

Oaklands Nursing Home’s activity coordinator recently organised a surprise party for Mickey Mouse and 'Good Housekeeping' illustrator Joan Sparrow’s 100th birthday.

Lynn Tomkins arranged for singer Andrew Marc to perform at the party and emailed Ms Sparrow’s two sons, one of whom lives in America and the other in London, along with a group of 14 friends.

Ms Sparrow “was very overwhelmed with all the excitement. As she came into the lounge where we all were, we sang happy birthday to her,” said Ms Tomkins. “I think it really took her breath away”.
