Plans have been revealed for a new Portuguese café in the heart of Hereford.

Erica De Fatima Dias Cardoso is seeking a licence for Aroma de Portugal at 9 Bridge Street, formerly Candy's Hair Salon and currently unoccupied, which would allow the new café to sell alcohol between 8am and 11pm seven days a week.

Her application describes it as a “stylish, family-owned business serving an exciting range of coffees, hot and cold beverages, pastries, baked goods, cakes, fresh wraps, snacks and a light lunch menu”.

Ms Dias Cardoso applied earlier this year for a licence for a café of the same name at 52 St Owen Street.

“Being within easy reach of transport connections, the café is perfectly placed to provide a warm, friendly, and welcoming environment to socialise, meet, or use as a work base,” her new application adds.

At the same time, its neighbour-but-one Bridge Thai Street Food of 7 Bridge Street has put forward a bid for a licence to enable it to serve alcohol and hot food until 2am.

OTHER NEWS:

This “is to enable the business to enhance the dining experience, to enable customers to enjoy alcoholic beverages with their table meal in the restaurant or in the comfort of their homes with food ordered for delivery”, the restaurant’s application says.

Alcohol would only be sold as part of a food order.

Both applications can be commented on via Herefordshire Council’s licensing webpage until September 3 (Aroma De Portugal) and September 4 (Bridge Thai Street Food).
