AS a local resident I often drive through Ross-on-Wye’s High Street (Letters, August 1).

It is nothing unusual to encounter pedestrians walking on the road, some doing so because of the narrow footpaths and volume of footfall and possibly some who may believe that it's a pedestrian walkway as opposed to it being a road.

ALSO READ:

By using extreme caution and anticipation, especially with older and infants walking, I have personally never encountered aggressive behaviour from anyone. A permanent 20 miles per hour limit would be advised but anyone with basic driving skills should easily be able to drive with caution and safety.

This road, being one way (out of town), isolates my area of the town from the A40, Hereford, and Wilton side of town, which necessitates the need to drive the entire circumference of Ross, increasing pollution and further fear to pedestrians en route.

I honestly do not think that there is a simple fix to that situation but truly hope that there is no consideration given to close the road.
