The new owner of a central Hereford takeaway is seeking to draw a line under past problems there.

In February Munchies of 59 Commercial Road had its late-night hot food licence revoked following a police report on a fight at the premises the previous December in which staff had failed to intervene.

Now a licensing application by Mohammed Abdussalam Gabaj, trading as Flames Hereford from the same address, makes clear: “This is an entirely new operator – there is no connection between the previous operator and the new business.”

His application seeks permission to continue the terms of the previous late-night licence, in operation from May 2013 until February, which allowed the premises to serve hot food until 3.30am seven days a week.

It appears that Flames – or as its new sign styles it, “Flames Pizza & Kebab House”, will continue the previous takeaway’s offer of kebabs, pizza, burgers and chicken. It has yet to reopen.

Comments on the application can be made via Herefordshire Council’s licensing webpage until August 27.
