Police offers and members of a bomb squad were called to a Herefordshire village last night after reports of a grenade being discovered.

West Mercia Police have said that they were called at 3.15pm on August 14 after an incident was reported at Coldstone Cross in Kingstone.

Contractors who were working in the area alerted the police after they had been working in the area and found what they believed to be a grenade. Images of the suspected grenade were sent through to the explosive ordnance disposal team, who attended the incident in the South Herefordshire village.

Whilst attending, the explosive ordnance disposal team set up a 100-metre cordon in order to safely dispose of the grenade.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “I can confirm we had a call from a contractor at Coldstone Cross, Kingstone at 3.15pm yesterday to advise they were doing some works at and have dug down to find what they believed was a grenade.

Photos of the grenade were sent through to the EOD who attended and disposed of the grenade. A 100-metre cordon was in place at the time while the device was disposed of.”
